I’m not the only ski bum in our house now, as Ambre officially finished work last week. But we do have prospective employment for another winter season. This time in Japan! I will hopefully be in Niseko in a just over 3 weeks, getting ready to shred some of the worlds deepest powder… and of course work. All I need now is a visa.
The final few weeks in NZ were cut short, and have been very mellow. I finally saw the famous Milford Sound, and Doubtful Sound all in one trip. Again we were not lucky enough to see any penguins or dolphins. Which made the long cruise a little less interesting, but we were treat to a few nice waterfalls and the aftermath of a few tree avalanches. Oh yeah, and an unexpected tour of a power station. I think the highlight was probably the spectacular drive up to Milford, or perhaps the even more spectacular BBQ we had at the campsite.
Due to continued car problems the rest of our activities have been restricted to the Wanaka area. We have had some cool little walks, seen some massive waterfalls, went to Wanaka Fest, and done our shopping for next season. We did try to a rent a car for a road trip, but I can’t remember the last time I actually carried a photo driving licence, and Ambre wisely left hers at home. We booked a bus pass only to find that the bus did not even stop in Wanaka. So alas we have simply relaxed in our little town, enjoying the pool and jacuzzi in a resort that is practically empty during spring.
Tomorrow we will finally head for our last few, hopefully fun filled and exciting days, in Queenstown.
