My first full day was all about clearing ruble and salvaging what materials would could from a collapsed house. This saves the house owner money when/if they build their new house. The Indonesian governament has given families affected by the quake $3500 each. Even in Indo, you’d be hard pushed to pay someone to clear the ruble, never mind build a whole house for that much.
Currently the family (7 members strong) is living in a tin hut so the sooner the better!
Luckily the local kids finish school at 2 so we had an army of children breaking down walls and shoveling ruble.
The nights aer pretty uneventful, but some of the lads have found the only place in town that serves beer. It’s only 50p, but it’s warm. I’ll be stearing clear as I’m working on my Bondi Beach body for christmas in Oz. So it’s reading and an early night. Bonkers Bowlin obviously went for a beer!
