A cheap hostel with long stay and short stay options.
Deco Backpackers is about a two minute uphill walk from the central part of Queenstown and has some awesome views over the lake. We watched the Winterfest opening ceremony fireworks from the garden, and it was sweet!
The communal shower and toilet blocks are outside of the main building, but the walk is under cover. So although it’s a little chilly on the way to the shower, you won’t get rained on. The TV, Kitchen and dinning room are also separate from the main building, but create a very sociable atmosphere in the hostel. The kitchen is very well equipped and herbs, spices, tea and coffee are all free! There is loads of fridge space and plenty of hobs for everyone. The hostel also boasts an impressive drying room for your ski gear and any wet or smelly stuff you don’t want in your room.
Out of the winter season you can get a bed for the week for about $140, peak season you will have to pay 4 weeks upfront to get a rate of $150, otherwise its about $160 in peak season.
Reception is open 8am-8pm.
